About Corinthians

Who We Are

The Corinthians Soccer Academy is the official soccer network of the Club Corinthians Paulista Soccer School, serving students from 4 to 17 years of age. Corinthians is the largest and best-structured licensed soccer network in Brazil and the world. The School "Chute Inicial" is the name known in Brazil, and "Corinthians Soccer Academy" is named in the USA; It is a source of great pride for the club and the licensed team's units, generating greater responsibility for all.

Main Goal

Our main objective is to play sports as a tool for socialization and use its values to build the individual's character. Our primary mission is to make students through sports learn how to win and lose, relate harmoniously in groups, practice a pleasurable activity that is good for their health, respect rules, and create even more identity with our club. Furthermore, aware that most students dream of becoming professional soccer players, we offer all the conditions and openings for talents to develop and have the chance to reach the base teams of Corinthians and become professional players.

Corinthians History Timeline

1910

The foundation

At 8:30 pm on September 1, by the light of a lamp, on the corner of José Paulino and Cônego Martins streets, in the Bom Retiro neighborhood, the group of workers formed by Anselmo Corrêa, Antônio Pereira, Carlos Silva, Joaquim Ambrósio and Raphael Perrone founded Sports Club Corinthians Paulista. With eight more boys, the meeting of the first members and founding partners of Timão was formed, whose name was inspired by the English team Corinthian-Casuals Football Club, which was touring Brazil. The president chosen by them was the tailor Miguel Battaglia, who, in the first moment, said: “Corinthians will be the people’s team, and the people will make the team.” A plot of land rented on Rua José Paulino was leveled and turned into a field, and it was there that, on September 14, the first training session was held in front of an enthusiastic audience, which assured: “This one is here to stay!”.

The first game of Timão outside the city of São Paulo. On the morning of September 17, victory over Ponte Preta in Campinas by 1-0.

Record of games in Varzea whose results were not found. The opponents were Paulista, Concordia, Botafogo, Minas Gerais, Maranhão and Vila Mariana.

Debut at Paulista

For the first time, Corinthians participated in the Paulista Football League championship. Alvinegro finished fourth among five teams.

The first title

First title of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. With 10 wins in 10 games played, Timão scored 37 goals and won the last match 3-0, against Lusitano, at Parque Antártica. Striker Neco was the tournament’s top scorer with 12 goals. Alvinegro won the Campeonato Paulista with one round to spare. On November 8, the team defeated Campos Elyseos 4-0 and became champion with the following lineup: Aristides, Fúlvio and Casemiro González; Police, Bianco and César Nunes; Américo, Peres, Amílcar, Apparício and Neco.

The Champion

Back in the Paulista Football League championship, Timão was again champion with 100% success: nine wins in nine games. Again, Apparício was the tournament’s top scorer with seven goals.

Ancient rivalries

Corinthians played for the first time in the Campeonato Paulista alongside their biggest rivals at the time. He finished in fourth place, behind Paulistano (champion), Palestra Itália (runner-up), and Santos (third).

The first stadium

In their spare time, the players from Alvinegro built the lawn for the first official Corinthians stadium. Named as Ponte Grande, the house of Timão was where today is Ponte das Bandeiras, on Marginal Tietê.

Tournament Home

Champion of the first Tournament, the Beginning of the history of football in São Paulo. The same year, Alvinegro won the first victory over Palestinian Itália in championship games. Then, at Parque Antártica, the right winger Américo scored the goal that defined the result of the match: 1 to 0.

Centenary of Independence

Corinthians was the tournament champion of São Paulo in the year of the Centenary of the Independence of Brazil. However, the game ended 2-0 over Paulistano in the Floresta field in February of the following year.

Two-time Paulista Championship

For the first time, the club was twice the champion of São Paulo. Leader of the initial round, the team started the second with six points of advantage and would only need to win three of the remaining seven games to take the mug.

The first tri-champion

Maintaining hegemony in the state, Alvinegro won the first three-time tournament in São Paulo. Although unfortunately, because of the “Tenentista” Revolution, the game was interrupted; on the way back, the title was guaranteed with a 1-0 victory over Paulistano.

Musketeer

Alvinegro was twice champion of the Paulista Championship again and, this time, with 100% success: seven wins in seven games. In the same year, the team won its first international match. On that occasion, Corinthians beat Barracas (ARG) 3-1 at Parque São Jorge. Apparício, Rato, and Rodrigues scored the goals of the turn. The following day, journalist Thomaz Mazzoni from A Gazeta reported the game highlighting the “musketeer fiber” demonstrated by the players. That same year, Gazeta created several mascots for the teams and attributed the Musketeer to Timão.

Unbeaten

Undefeated! During the entire year, Corinthians did not lose any game. There were 28 wins and three draws, including friendly matches. Timão won the first round of Paulista but lost the final to Palestra, champion of the return, in 1937.

Another Paulistao Championship

In that year’s state championship, the Parque São Jorge club won the cup. However, the remarkable most remarkable duel was the victory over Palestra by 1 to 0 in the antepenultimate round, with a goal by Teleco.

It’s tri!

Coringão won the state championship for the third time. No club has won the Campeonato Paulista more than three times in a row.

Two Championship.

That year, Timão won two titles. The first was the 1st City of São Paulo Cup, triangular, with the first three placed in the Paulista of the previous year. Soon after, he won the Quinela de Ouro, contested by Corinthians, Palestra, São Paulo, Flamengo and Fluminense.

International victories

In addition to winning the City of São Paulo Cup again, the club won significant victories in international friendlies held in Brazil against River Plate (ARG) and Torino (ITA).

The 100 goals attack

After ten years, Alvinegro was São Paulo’s champion again. The attack formed by Cláudio, Luizinho, Baltazar, Carbone and Mário scored 103 goals in just 30 games. In the same year, Corinthians played its first match outside Brazil. In the International/Foursquare Tournament in Montevideo, the club defeated the Uruguayan Combination 4-1 at the Montevideo stadium.

Year of Glory

Coringão won Rio-São Paulo for the second time and the Little World Cup, playing against Barcelona (ESP), Roma (ITA), and the Caracas team in Venezuela.

IV Centenary

Alvinegro was the champion of three competitions that year. In addition to winning the Rio-São Paulo Tournament and the Charles Miller Tournament, the team won the Paulista Cup. Year of the fourth centenary since the foundation of the city of São Paulo, the 1954 championship was very desired by all clubs. Corinthians conquered it having in its last game the following lineup: Gilmar, Rafael, Goiano, Homero, Idário, Alan, Nonô, Roberto, Simão, Luizinho and Cláudio.

That year, the club was the I Taça São Paulo champion, a knockout tournament involving teams from all divisions of SP.

Rivellino

With Rivellino on the team, Timão won the Pentagonal Tournament in Recife. In addition, it became the first club to wear the national team’s shirt abroad but was defeated by Arsenal 2-0 in London.

Breaking the Taboo

With goals from Paulo Borges and Flávio, Coringão beat Santos 2-0 and broke an 11-year taboo without defeating the team from the coast of São Paulo. On the night of March 6, the alvinegra team entered Pacaembu with the following lineup: Diogo, Osvaldo Cunha, Ditão, Luís Carlos and Maciel; Edson Cegonha and Rivelino; Buião, Paulo Borges, Flávio and Eduardo.

The first Brasileirão Championship

In the first Brazilian Championship in history, Alvinegro dominated the first phase and was the leader but did not have a good performance at the end of the competition.

Another Paulistão Championship

Paulista’s decision was disputed the following year, with Corinthians as the winner. In the semifinal, the Parque São Jorge club beat rival Palmeiras considered the best team in the tournament.

Corinthian Democracy

Driven by the ideals of Corinthian Democracy, Timão was São Paulo’s champion that year. The movement aimed at greater participation of players and other club employees in the decisions of the Football Department. It lasted until 1985 and featured a group of talented and unique players, such as Sócrates, Casagrande, Zenon, Biro-Biro, Zé Maria, and Wladimir, among others.

Historic rout

After 30 years, the Parque São Jorge team was again the São Paulo champion. But, as in the previous year, the club beat São Paulo: 1-0 in the first game and 1-1 in the second. Still, in 1983, Corinthians scored the biggest rout in the Brazilian Championship: 10-1 at Tiradentes-PI.

Brazilian Champion

On December 16, Timão lifted the Brazilian champion trophy for the first time in its history. With 23 goals scored in 25 matches, coach Nelsinho Baptista’s team beat São Paulo 1-0 in the last game, held at Morumbi. Neto scored nine of the 23 goals, five in free kicks. The team’s lineup on the day of the grand final was: Ronaldo, Giba, Marcelo, Guinei and Jacenir; Márcio, Wilson Mano and Tupãzinho; Neto, Fabinho and Mauro.

Bandeirantes Trophy

The Parque São Jorge team won the Bandeirantes Trophy over Santos, which guaranteed a place in the Copa does Brasil the following year.

Champion of All

In a spectacular year, Corinthians won the Copa São Paulo de Juniores, the Campeonato Paulista and the Copa do Brasil. In the latter, Alvinegro won eight of the ten matches played. The final games were played with Grêmio. At Pacaembu and Olímpico, Corinthians won: 2-1 at home and 1-0 in Porto Alegre.

Owner of the country again

Corinthians won another Paulista and, for the second year in a row, the Brazilian. As had happened in the previous year, Alvinegro dominated the national championship from start to finish in 1999. The results of the three final games were: Atlético-MG 3 x 2 Corinthians, Corinthians 2 x 0 Atlético-MG and Corinthians 0 x 0 Atlético-MG . The lineup in the last match was: Dida, Índio, Márcio Costa, João Carlos and Kléber; Gilmar, Rincón, Vampeta and Ricardinho; Edilson and Marcelinho. This time, the coach was Oswaldo de Oliveira. Luizão scored 21 of the 61 goals that Alvinegro made during the 29 rounds.

The first World Cup

The first FIFA-recognized club world title came with a penalty shootout victory against Vasco after a goalless draw in standard time. The final lineup was: Dida, Índio, Adílson, Fábio Luciano and Kléber; Rincón, Vampeta, Ricardinho and Marcelinho; Edilson and Luizão. Alvinegro scored six goals in four games played. Edílson’s second goal in the 2-2 draw against Real Madrid is considered one of the most remarkable in Corinthian history.

Unforgettable goal

Coringão won the title of the Paulista Championship once again. However, the scene that will be forever marked in Fiel’s memory is Ricardinho’s goal against Santos in the semifinal. In the last seconds of the decisive game, the midfielder made it 2 to 1 for Alvinegro and guaranteed the team in the final.

fantastic year

Under the command of coach Carlos Alberto Parreira, Timão had a glorious year. On May 12, he was the champion of Rio-São Paulo over the São Paulo tricolor with a 3-2 victory in the first match of the final and a 1-1 draw in the second game. Three days later, Corinthians lifted another trophy. Against Brasiliense, Alvinegro won the Copa do, Brasil for the second time. In the first leg, 2 to 1 for the São Paulo team. The match ended with a goal for each group on the way back.

Galactic Champion

With an all-star cast, Corinthians won the fourth Brazilian Championship. Under the command of Argentine striker Carlitos Tevez, who scored 20 goals in the tournament, the club won 24 matches and drew nine, the same number of defeats. One of the most memorable duels was the 7-1 over rival Santos. Coach Antônio Lopes’ team scored 87 goals and conceded 29. The lineup for the last match was: Fábio Costa, Marinho, Wendel, Coelho and Gustavo Nery; Marcelo Mattos, Rosinei, Bruno Octávio and Carlos Alberto; Nilmar and Tevez. The Argentine was also named the best player in the competition.

phenomenal year

One of the greatest football idols of all time was the year’s primary name at Corinthians. Ronaldo, the Phenomenon, scored the most beautiful goal of his career in the first game of the Paulistão final against Santos. With a 3-1 victory, a 1-1 draw on the return was enough for Alvinegro to take the mug unbeaten. Two months later, in July, Timão beat Internacional 2-0 at home in the first match of the Copa do Brasil final. The 2-2 result in Porto Alegre guaranteed another title for Coringão.

Corinthians Centenary

Despite not having won any titles in 2010, the year was full of celebration for Fiel Torcida on account of the Corinthians Centenary. On September 1st, more than 100,000 crazy people from the gang packed Anhangabaú for Timão’s birthday celebrations. In November, Ronaldo Fenômeno scored the last goal of his professional career. From a penalty, the eternal shirt 9 scored the winning goal by 1 to 0 over Cruzeiro.

Brazilian Fifth Championship

In a goalless draw against their biggest rival, Timão won the Brazilian Championship for the fifth time. Alvinegro’s campaign was 21 wins, eight draws, and nine defeats. The 2011 team was known for its regularity inside and outside the home and an excellent defense. Liédson was Corinth’s top scorer with 12 goals. The lineup in the last game was: Júlio César, Alessandro, Paulo André, Leandro Castán and Fábio Santos; Wallace, Paulinho and Alex; William, Jorge Henrique and Liedson. In the same year, the Corinthians stadium, under construction, was officially named the venue for the opening of the 2014 World Cup.

was An unforgettable year!

For the first time in history, Corinthians won the Libertadores. And, to be perfect, unbeaten! There were 22 goals scored and only four conceded in eight wins and six draws. Forward Emerson scored the goals in the 2-0 victory against Boca Juniors.

After an unforgettable year, Timão won two more titles in 2013. The first was against rivals Santos. For Paulistão, Corinthians won the first game of the final by 2 to 1 at Pacaembu and tied the second game by 1 to 1 in Vila Belmiro, lifting the cup for the 27th and keeping the title of greatest state champion in SP. In July, Alvinegro faced São Paulo in the finals of the Recopa Sul-Americana. With goals from Guerrero and Renato Augusto, the Parque São Jorge team won the first duel by 2 to 1, away from home. In the final confrontation, Romarinho and Danilo secured the Corinthians conquest with a 2-0 victory.

In Fábio Carille’s first season as Corinthians coach, Timão won the 28th São Paulo title and the 7th Brasileirão in its history. Pointed out as one of the most fragile teams among the big ones at the beginning of the season, Timão won the state tournament after eliminating São Paulo in the semifinals and beating Ponte Preta in the decision. In the Brasileirão, Corinthians continued the team’s great moment and reached the second most extensive unbeaten series in the club’s history. There were 34 unbeaten games in five months: from March 19 to August 19. At the end of the year, Corinthians confirmed the Brasileirão title in a victory over Fluminense at Arena Corinthians.

2018

In the current season, Corinthians again won the São Paulo championship after 35 years. In the final, Timão beat arch-rivals Palmeiras in the heart of Allianz Parque.

This year, Timão was again champion of São Paulo after 80 years (the last Tri had been in 1937, 1938, and 1939). In the decision, Alvinegro beat São Paulo at Arena Corinthians and lifted its 30th state championship.
